As a gamer and a parent, I'm always on the lookout for engaging titles that can capture my attention. Specifically, one that has been on my radar but I've been hesitant on is Dispatch, a narrative-driven game that combines the storytelling style of Telltale games with the thrill of superpowers and performances from high-profile actors. In this post, I’ll share my thoughts on the first four episodes and whether this game is worth your time.

Story Style - Weekly Releases and Telltale Game with Superpowers
The internet and content creators have had much to say about the weekly release format of Dispatch. They may be right about a lot of shortcomings from this format but for a parent, with limited time and other duties, this game has been tailor made for my constraints.
The game releases 2 episodes weekly with the next coming on November 5th. They don't take so long that I stay up all night but it's a healthy chunk of time as if a new show came out. Which respects my time constraints significantly more than the next 40-80 hour RPG that comes out and half the internet is done in a week.
All said and done, this story style is made for those who have other responsibilities, time constraints and duties, which allows the game to flourish with an interesting story that I want to see where it goes.
Engaging Gameplay Mechanics
The gameplay mechanics echo classic Telltale titles, where choices matter and can lead to different outcomes. In Dispatch, players take on the role of a character who is a superhero but without superpowers.
The choices you make all throughout the game truly feel like they matter and affect the relationships around you and the story beats following. We can't say much more without spoiling what we believe has been an interesting story.
Each episode involves the dispatch mechanic where you send heroes out on missions of all shapes and sizes to save the day. The missions are not difficult but by no means will you ace them all on the first go every time, or at least I didn't.
The interactive mission structure, along with pivotal choices leads to high replay ability and wondering how these key choices will impact your next episode.
Outstanding Voice Acting
The voice acting in Dispatch is another highlight. With a cast of high-profile actors, the performances bring depth and emotion to the characters. Each actor delivers their lines with nuance, making it easy to connect with their journeys.
The acting paired with what we believe is good comedy, for a video game, keeps the episodes feel engaging all through your gameplay.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Dispatch Episodes 1-4 is a captivating blend of storytelling, stunning visuals, and engaging gameplay. The overall experience is enjoyable, particularly for those who appreciate narrative-driven games and have the constraints of professional or parental responsibilities. If you’re a fan of Telltale-style games and are looking for something fresh with a superhero twist, it’s definitely worth your time. In fact, to go further, I believe everyone should try this game, given the ability in their budget.
One note, this is definitively not friendly for your family to watch and play with you unless it is your spouse, Episode 4 starts a little frisky.
We here at the Gamer-Parent are hoping that this game sticks the landing in episodes 5-8, and this format is taken forward in a TV show like capacity for a Season 2.
